Below you will find forty days of scripture readings…each day is paired with a 3 to 5-minute video made by “Spoken Gospel.” 🎞️ Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are each represented, along with a different Spoken Gospel commentator for each book. Friends, please dig into scripture each and every day. It’s in both the old and the new testaments where Jesus is the focal point. Sixty-six books, more than 40 writers, works penned over hundreds of years, each inspired by God…all pointing to the Gospel.
The Gospel is the “Good News” of Jesus saving us from our sins…through the cross, and then being resurrected 3 days later. Ephesians 2:7-8 declares that we have been saved “by grace through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Jonathan Edwards, a preacher and Christian theologian from the early 1700’s, boldly explained the graciousness of the Gospel in this way- “You contribute nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.” This is why Jesus came. This is Good News that we need to celebrate everyday. Jesus came to pay the price of sin for us…He was enough on our behalf. Before we begin reading each of the 40 days, please read both Isaiah 53 and 1 Corinthians 15, followed by watching the videos about Jesus, the Gospel, and the Resurrection. Isaiah 53:1-9 Inspired by God, Isaiah wrote this portion of this writings Between 740–680 BC. Written nearly 800 years before 1 Corinthians 15.
Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? 9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth.
1 Corinthians 15:1-19 – Inspired by God, Paul wrote this letter around AD 55
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. 11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
The Resurrection of the Dead
12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. – Galatians 2:20
