Whether it be our own personal pain and brokenness, observing the suffering of others, and/or the dissension and heartbreaking evil seen around us (at homes, at work, or on the news)… one might ask, “How could anything good come from this?” The historical testimonies of Joseph, Ruth, and Job in the Bible also deal with the question of suffering. Each of these persons drew hope and joy upon knowing that despite what they felt and witnessed, God was on the throne. They knew that God was good and thus trusted God’s character and wisdom. Instead of leaning upon their own understanding, they poured out their hearts before God in utter vulnerability, confident in His reign (soveREIGNty) over every detail.
Prosperity should not be an occasion for pride, and uncertainty should not be an occasion for panic…Why? Because of the Providence of God.Alistair Begg
In John 1:46, Nathanael asked the same question, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Like all of us, Nathaniel relied upon his human reasoning, emotions, and experience but was advised to go to Jesus and see! God often allows our understanding to fail as to remind us that only He is God and that we need to lean upon Him in all of our ways. Just as Nathaniel saw no possibility of good coming from such a lowly location (Nazareth), we too can struggle mightily to perceive how God could bring good out of various circumstances…especially times of immense suffering! Jesus truly is the only good that can come from any situation. Resting in His Peace and His care in times of sorrow or great concern allows us to know His faithfulness even more. Friend, no matter what you and I might face today, nothing is impossible with God and nothing is in vain according to His purposes. Throw every fear, question, and presupposition upon the cross today… Jesus is enough for every need we will ever face. God is Holy, Just, and wholly good… Not to mention, 100% in control. Let’s keep praying loads and loads, reading His Word fervently, and diving into Gospel-driven community… Trust His heart! ♥️
